GØ to Jazzahead! – as the first Faroese band ever
Jazzahead!, the music trade fair in Bremen, Germany, is recognized as one of the world’s most important meeting points for the jazz industry. As the largest international jazz fair, it brings together musicians, festival organizers, record labels, booking agents, and industry professionals from all over the world. With a combination of a comprehensive trade fair, a showcase festival, and professional networking events, Jazzahead! serves as a key platform that develops and strengthens the global jazz market.
In addition to being a hub for industry professionals, Jazzahead! is also an important stage for emerging talent. Through its prestigious showcase festival, selected artists get the opportunity to perform in front of an international audience consisting of industry leaders and jazz enthusiasts. With its unique combination of business and live music, Jazzahead! has established itself as an essential platform for everyone working in jazz.
While festivals such as Montreux Jazz Festival and North Sea Jazz Festival may be larger in terms of audience and concerts, Jazzahead! stands out as the most important international trade fair for jazz.
Despite a strong jazz scene in the Faroe Islands, no Faroese band has ever performed at this prestigious festival. - until now. Today, we are thrilled to announce that the Faroese jazz band GØ will perform in Bremen when the festival takes place in April.
Kristian Blak, who is undoubtedly the foremost authority on the Faroese jazz scene and its history, shared his thoughts upon receiving the news:
"Havnar Jazzfelag and Tutl have participated in the Jazzahead! fair in Bremen several times to explore opportunities for promoting Faroese jazz internationally. However, until now, no Faroese band has had the chance to perform at Jazzahead!. This will undoubtedly be of great significance—not only for GØ but also for Faroese jazz as a whole," Kristian said enthusiastically, before adding:
"GØ will be an excellent representative! They have received outstanding reviews for their concerts and releases over the past year and have been featured and played on radio stations across Europe."
"It’s fantastic to see the Faroese jazz scene growing right now," says Glenn Larsen, director of Faroe Music Export (FMX). "GØ’s latest release has been very well received internationally, and this is an important and valuable recognition for them to bring to such a significant and high-quality festival as Jazzahead!. I have great confidence that they will make an impact there and that this performance will open new doors for them."
Ólavur Gaard from GØ was ecstatic when he received the news:
"Performing at Jazzahead! is a huge opportunity for us. We firmly believe that we have something unique to offer the jazz world, so we will perform with the same energy as always. Hopefully, this will help more people discover us and Faroese jazz in general," said Ólavur excitedly.
Jazzahead! takes place in Bremen from April 24–26.
