Marius DC is stepping out of the Faroe Islands and onto the European music scene.
It feels like Marius DC has been around forever. He's well established on the Faroese music scene, with several releases and awards to his name.
Still, the talented rapper, producer, and musician is young — and at the age of 22, he's now setting his sights on the European stage.
Ahead of a year with several European shows and showcase appearances, we had a quick chat with Marius DC.
Hi, Marius! Glad you had a few minutes to spare from your busy schedule.
First of all, who are you (in your own words)?
On my last EP I put it in one word, Listamaður (or in english, an artist). If I had to elaborate, I’d say I’m a young man from one of the smallest countries in the world expressing himself through the genre of Hip Hop, trying his best to make a career out of doing what I love, writing and performing music.
You've been part of the Faroese music scene for years, but you've also played a few shows abroad, right?
Yeah, I’ve performed in Rotterdam at the New Skool Rules festival, I played at Trondheim Calling in Norway and have been so lucky to be invited twice to perform at Iceland Airwaves in Reykjavík. it’s always fun to see how international audiences receive the music, they usually don’t have a preconceived idea of me or my music. What they hear on the night of the performance is usually the only thing they’ve heard from me, and while there’s a level of difficulty with winning over a crowd that has no prior relationship to your music, it’s also super dope to see people connect with my art for the very first time. Performing my music in Faroese is also always fun, the language barrier can be kind of a gift and a curse, it might stop some of the text from coming through, but the energy and feeling takes center stage at that point and the reactions can almost be amplified at times.
You mentioned that you performed at Iceland Airwaves a few years ago and were invited back in 2025. How did the latest one go, and what do you feel you gained from the experience?
Two amazing shows are the thing that stands out the most. I met some really cool people who I might work with in the future, and managed to score a booking or two off my performance there. Iðnó, the first venue I played at, even invited me back two months later to play a showcase with a few local icelandic acts. Great stuff. I also saw some other amazing artists perform, Saya Gray’s show at the Reykjavík Art Museum was historically sick.
Do you have any other showcase festivals lined up in the near future ? Perhaps in 2026?
Yessir! I’m playing SPOT in Aarhus on May 1st, and two weeks later I’m headed to Brighton to perform at The Great Escape. Those two festivals have been major goals in my career, and ticking them off is gonna be huge. I might have something else lined up but I don’t think I can talk about that quite yet…
Exciting! What are your goals for 2026 and 2027?
I’m really trying to make 2026 a year to remember in my career. Work is one thing, I’m always in the studio, translating that into actual success is a whole different beast and that’s most certainly on the docket. Keep playing great shows, connecting with new people and getting inspired is always another one. But it’s hard to answer honestly, I think I tend to hone in on the journey rather than the actual goal. If there’s one thing I’ve learned it’s that there’s no finish line to the music industry, it’s kind of a never ending marathon. Keep running I guess.
What's next for Marius DC? Can you share anything about upcoming releases?
I’m actually releasing an EP on the day I perform at SPOT. It’s kind of a sequel to my first release, The MZA EP, this one being Volume 2. It’s kind of a return to my original approach, I think I’ve developed a tendency throughout the years to get suuuper perfectionistic with my work and end up pulling hairs trying to reinvent the wheel with everything I release, and on this one I just wanted to make something that felt fun to create. It’s also the first thing I’ve released in English in quite a while, so that’s gonna be interesting.
Thanks, Marius! We'll see you at SPOT Festival to start with — best of luck with everything!
