Mexico calling! Open Call for Artists from the Faroe Islands, Norway, and Iceland.
Mexico Calling – A Launchpad for Nordic Music in Mexico
Faroe Music Export, Music Norway, and Iceland Music are looking for ambitious artists ready to develop a tailored strategy to break into one of the world’s most vibrant and fastest-growing music markets.
We have now launched an open call for a project that includes: a PR campaign in Mexico, a marketing campaign in Mexico, release shows in Mexico City, and more.
Read more below and apply before the end of August 25th.
OPEN CALL!
Are you an artist from the Faroe Islands, Norway, or Iceland with your sights set on Mexico? Mexico Calling is a unique collaboration between Music Export Norway, Faroe Music Export, and Iceland Music - with generous support from Nordisk Kulturfund and LiveMX - aimed at giving artists from these countries the best possible entry into one of the world’s most vibrant and fastest-growing music markets. Participants – one act from each of the three countries - will receive support for marketing and promotion around their release and will perform three shows in Mexico City in November. Travel and accommodation costs are included.
About the Mexican music market
Mexico is the world’s 15th-largest music market, with over 85 million active streaming users and a thriving live scene – from major international festivals such as Corona Capital and Vive Latino to legendary venues in Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey. The market is continually growing, offering more and more opportunities for international artists to reach new audiences.
"Mexico Calling" offers artists a unique opportunity to take their first steps in this exciting territory, launching a long-term, tailored PR and marketing campaign for the country, supported by live performances in one of the most exciting cities in the world.
Mexico Calling Goals
The project’s goals are to build anticipation for upcoming releases and deliver powerful release shows in Mexico City that strengthen both the music and the artists’ visibility. Participants will gain access to experienced industry professionals, partners, and experts in Mexico. The aim is also, from then, to secure slots at key Mexican festivals and lay the foundation for further performances, additional releases, and a lasting foothold in the Mexican market.
We are looking for artists ready to invest their time and energy into customised PR and marketing campaigns – and who are committed to building strong connections in Mexico.
If this sounds like you, we encourage you to apply!
What’s included:
- Travel and accommodation (release shows)
- Project management
- PR, marketing, and social media campaigns in Mexico
- Content creation (in Mexico)
Timeline:
August 12 – Open call starts
August 25 (midnight) – Open call closes
Early September – Jury meetings and notifications
Mid-September – Project start for selected artists
November 17–22 – Three release shows in Mexico City
Eligibility criteria:
Genre: Alternative, indie, rock, or alt-pop.
Releases: Participants must have new music scheduled for release between September and November. Ideally, this should be an album or EP rather than just one or two singles. A music video released during the same period is preferred but not required.
Team structure: Participants must work with at least one international music industry professional (publisher, manager, booking agent, etc.).
Experience: Participants must have prior international live performance experience and be considered “export ready” by their local music export office.
Social media: Participants must have active, professionally managed accounts on major social media platforms and be willing to engage with fans in Spanish.
Long-term strategy: A clear motivation to develop Mexico as a key market for sustained career growth, not just a one-off project.
International recognition: Evidence of growing visibility in Europe or other markets outside the artist’s home country.
Availability: Participants must be available (and willing) to travel to Mexico in mid/late November (please see section about release shows)
Deadline for applications: August 25 (midnight).
For more information, please contact your local music export office.
